Seoul becomes an extension of your classroom as you explore Korea’s rich culture, history, and iconic landmarks while taking a cross-cultural psychology course with Orange Coast College professor, Dr. Hannah Kang. Through engaging site visits, lectures, and cultural experiences, Dr. Kang’s course brings Seoul’s vibrant heritage and contemporary society to life. Beyond the classroom, curated excursions in and around Seoul offer an authentic opportunity to experience the seamless blend of tradition and modernity that defines South Korea today. Students will stay in shared studio accommodations with single- and twin-bed options, with dedicated program support and guidance provided throughout the experience. Together, these academic and cultural opportunities create a meaningful, immersive, and enriching study abroad experience.

Dr. Hannah Kang is the chair and professor in the Department of Psychology at Orange Coast College. She graduated with a B.A. in psychology from UC San Diego and received her Ph.D. in Psychology from from UC Irvine. Her primary field of study for her doctoral degree was developmental psychology, with a minor in quantitative methods.

Cultural learning is an integral part of this program. Included in your program fee is a thoughtfully curated selection of day trips and excursions designed to deepen your understanding of South Korea's psychological, historical, and socio-cultural dimensions. Past excursions have included a guided tour of Seoul, a visit to the DMZ and to a traditional village, a hands-on kimchi-making class, and a weekend trip to Busan. Excursions are chosen based on the academic curriculum and are subject to change.

Cross-Cultural Psychology (PSYC A190) explores foundational theories and research that helps us better understand our experiences as we engage with people from cultural backgrounds different from our own.  By examining the concepts and dynamics of cross-cultural interactions – and experiencing these interactions  firsthand on a daily basis while studying abroad – you will develop a deeper understanding of how culture shapes human behavior, communication, and relationships. These experiences will equip you with valuable perspectives and skills to engage thoughtfully and effectively in an increasingly  global community, both personally and professionally. 

Students may earn 3 transferable college credits through Orange Coast College. Please consult with your academic counselor to verify the transferability of the course to your institution before applying.
